About Inifresi

Inifresi is a word from Guam's native language, CHamoru, that's derived from the word meaning "Offering" or "To Offer."

Inifresi is also the name of Guam's pledge. On Guam, we would often recite the Inifresi alongside the American Pledge of Allegiance:
Inifresi
Ginen i mås takhilo' gi hinaso-ku,
i mås takhalom gi kurason-hu,
yan i mås figu' na nina'siña-hu,
hu ofresen maisa yu'
Para bai hu prutehi, yan hu difende
i hinengge, i kottura, i lengguåhi, i aire,
i hanom, yan i tano' Chamoru
Ni' irensiå-ku direchu ginen as Yu'os Tåta,
Este hu ofitma gi hilo' i Bipblia,
yan i banderå-hu, I banderan Guåhan.

Offering
From the inner-most recesses of my mind,
From the deepest part of my heart,
and with every fiber of my being,
I offer myself,
For I will protect and defend
The beliefs, the culture, the language, the air,
the water, and the land of the Chamoru.
With my heritage guided by God the Father.
This I affirm on the Bible and my flag,
the flag of Guam.

My family and I are ancestrally CHamoru, and I spent much of my childhood on-island. We moved back to the Madison/Huntsville area in 2013, and the development of Inifresi began in 2021. It is with my island's pledge in mind that I offer friends and family here in the 256 area with the following:
Food as comforting and flavorful as it is on my family's fiesta table.
Good vibes like the welcoming embrace of a warm tropical island.
A sense of community that is inclusive to the whole spectrum of our diversity.

All this I offer, with more to come.
